SXSW Interactive Hall of Fame The goal of the SXSW Interactive Festival Hall of Fame is to recognize those trendsetters whose ca- reer accomplishments have paved the future of the new media industry. As with previous honorees Jeffrey Zeldman (2012) and danah boyd (2013), Hall of Fame inductees are essential members of the Interactive community who have made numerous contributions to the underlying SXSW goals of creativity, innovation and inspiration. For 2014, the SXSW Interactive Festival Hall of Fame inductee will be Joi Ito, who currently holds the position of Director of the MIT Media Lab. He is a Board Member of The Sony Corpo- ration, The New York Times Company, The Ma- cArthur Foundation, The Knight Foundation and Creative Commons. He is on board of a number of non-profit organizations including The Mozilla Foundation and WITNESS. He has created nu- merous Internet companies including PSINet Japan, Digital Garage and Infoseek Japan and was an early stage investor in Twitter, Six Apart, Wikia, Flickr, Last.fm, Kickstarter and Path. Ito was named by Businessweek as one of the "25 Most Influential People on the Web" in 2008. In 2011, he was chosen by Foreign Policy Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Global Thinkers." In 2011, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Oxford Internet Institute in recognition of his role as one of the world's leading advo- cates of Internet freedom.
