GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 13 • 25 third-and-10 on defense to make a stop. We didn't have enough of that. We had some. We didn't have enough. … Somebody has got to make the key plays at the key times and we're just not there yet." Though some fans are clam- oring for changes to the coaching staff, Burke said he told the group after the season-ending loss to In- diana that he was convinced they were all the "right guys" for Purdue. That includes Hazell. After the Indiana loss, Hazell spoke of keeping his sights on his "vision" for the program. Burke was asked if he sees that vision. "He and I see it in spades," Burke said. "I think he's a smart guy. Some people want the fiery, Gene Keady kind of mentality. Others kind of like the cool, calm and collected. This guy has got an unbelievable ability to stay focused and to be unruffled. … I think for a team that is struggling to get over the edge, I think this team in particular needs to be able and look over there and see a sense of calmness that we're going to get this done. "He's been there. He was at Rutgers when they struggled, and he was at Ohio State when they won. John (Shoop)'s been at differ - ent places, (Kevin) Sherman, (Greg) Hudson. You've got a lot of people who've got a lot of experience at both tough times and good times. We're really fortunate to have a mix of leadership we've got and they know how to take some hits. This is not the first experience they've been in when things have gotten tough." WILLIAMS NAMED ALL- CONFERENCE Junior defensive back Frankie Williams was the team's only rep- resentative on the first- or second- team All-Big Ten teams, announced Monday. There ultimately were six defensive backs on the coaches' second-team ballot be- cause of ties, and Williams was one of them. Williams transitioned from corner- back to safe- ty in training camp and started there in Week 1. He didn't move back to cor- nerback un- til Week 11 and started the final two games. He was third on Purdue with 74 tackles and second with three interceptions and seven pass break - ups. He also had a sack and recovered a fumble. "Frankie has been a playmak- er for us all year when he's been healthy," Hazell said before the Northwestern game.
