GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 13 • 26 ter Robert Kugler and kicker Paul Griggs were honorable mention selections. Feichter, a senior, led the team in tackles for the second time in his career with 105 — a whopping 29 more than the next-closest team- mate — and also had a team-high five interceptions. His tackle total was eighth-best in the Big Ten and his interceptions were tied for sec- ond-most in the league. Before his final game in Ross-Ade Stadium, Feichter was asked about his career. "I feel like I've done a pretty good job here at Purdue, when a lot of people didn't think I'd be able to," he said. Griggs, a junior, made 16- of-20 field goals this season and became the first Purdue kicker to make three 50-plus yarders in a single season. Kugler was the team's only junior captain. He helped the offensive line pave the way for a near-1,000-yard rusher and dou - ble the team's rushing total from a season ago. The team's Big Ten Sports- manship Award honoree was se- nior tight end Dolapo Macarthy. The league doesn't have an official all-freshmen team, but BTN.com writer Tom Dienhart put together his list and included middle linebacker Ja'Whaun Bent- ley on his first team. Bentley start- ed every game in his first season, including the first six at weakside linebacker before moving to the middle to replace injured senior Sean Robinson. Bentley was second on the team with 76 tackles and also had three fumble recoveries and an in- terception. "Sometimes you're asked to grow up quickly, whether that was fortunate or unfortunate, he han- dled it extremely well," Hazell said of Bentley's move to the middle. "He's really done an unbelievable job of doing all the things that Coach (Marcus) Freeman has asked him to do and doing it extremely well, so I'm proud of how he's re- sponded to that." Dienhart had redshirt fresh- man linebacker Danny Ezechukwu on his honorable mention list. Rob- inson's injury also forced Ezechuk- wu into a different role, pushing him from a little-used backup and sometimes rush end to a starter on the weakside. He was productive during his starts, and he finished the season with 43 tackles, 1.5 sacks and an interception. "Danny is a physical guy," Free- man said this season. "When you play fast and run to the ball, it's a habit of being physical.
