GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 13 • 27 guy you worry about shying away from con- tact. He's a good-sized kid. From the first day I saw him, I said, 'Man, he's Big Ten-ready almost when he came here from Georgia.' "But he's been doing a good job. He's been healthy and playing fast and been pretty pro- ductive." SHIFTING IU RIVALRY Burke said he's discussed with president Mitch Daniels about moving the Indiana game, both to a neutral site and also earlier in the season. The conversations were spurred by one fac- tor: Student attendance. Because the current Big Ten schedule ex- tends to the week of Thanksgiving and that's also been labeled "rivalry week," the Bucket game has fallen on a weekend in which the students aren't in town. That's hurt attendance. Moving the game to Lucas Oil Stadium in In- dianapolis, as an example, would allow for what Burke called "recuperative power." Still, with changes on the horizon for the south end zone, Burke ultimately would prefer to keep home games at home against the Hoosiers. So the best option could be trying to push the game to earlier in the season. That certainly would be breaking the mold. The last time the rivalry wasn't the last game of a season: 1919. "When it was the Saturday before Thanksgiving, it was fine. But it's not now, and I worry you'll di - minish the tradition if the students year after year after year aren't there unless it's a big game," Burke said. "So we might be well-ad- vised to tell the Big Ten, 'Hey, slot us in some- where else.' They'd love it. It'd create a better TV experience.
