GOLDANDBLACK EXPRESS • VOLUME 25, EXPRESS 13 • 29 BY GOLD AND BLACK STAFF PURDUE ADDS GEORGIAN Purdue landed one of its long- standing A-list athlete targets Tuesday night when Evyn Cooper of Buford, Ga., pledged to the Boilermakers. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Rivals. com three-star prospect had fielded offers at one time or another through- out the process from the likes of Geor- gia Tech, North Carolina, Missouri, Louisville, Virginia and numerous others. He visited unofficially in June. "We went down there this summer, and I felt like the entire coaching staff knew me already," Cooper said. "They were speaking to me like one of their own already. There was an automatic connection. I just felt like I needed to be part of that family. They showed that they cared about us a lot and that was our first time meeting them. My family was really excited about that, about the opportunity they've given me to com - pete and offer my services on the football field and in the classroom and everywhere else." Cooper will play either defensive back or running back — both positions of immediate need for Purdue — in West Lafayette. "They're not quite fighting over me, but (secondary coach Taver) Johnson wants me to play on the defensive side of the ball and (run- ning backs coach Jafar) Williams would like me to play running back," he said. "When I set foot on campus, I'll make a decision from there. "I just want to be a team guy, wherever the team needs me to play I'll line up at and I'll give my all, even if it's kicker, punter, special teams."
