complete engine dynos, chassis dynos and Spintron for valvetrain development. Kroyer even has the capability of diamond honing an engine block that has been heated to the correct operating temperature. This allows for extremely tight tolerances that can add longevity and reliability to an engine package. His concept of developing what he calls a complete powertrain package, again comes from experience and techniques learned over the course of many years, that improve overall reliability. “In the past, we would build and engine. Someone else would build the transmission. Another person would build the axles, and so on. Once something failed in a race, the trans guy would blame the axle guy. The axle guy blamed the engine guy and it just created a nightmare for a team to try and figure out what went wrong,” says Kroyer. “This is the main reason we do a complete engine and drivetrain package. It allows us to build the two together, knowing the limitations and dramatically increasing reliability in a race.” This complete package approach, led to the partnership with Gear Works, a 13,500 square foot facility, where TH400 transmissions, transfer cases, rear end axles and parts are engineered and designed to be strong, efficient, and reliable. The Gear Works facility also has a transmission dyno and builds its drivetrains as meticulously as any of Kroyer’s racing engines. Attention To Details Makes All The Difference Kroyer’s philosophy for winning goes beyond his recipes for building a powerful and reliable engine. The time and attention to taking care of even the most minute details, especially in a 500 or 1000 mile race, can sometimes mean the difference between winning and losing. Walking around the engine shop, you see the steps Kroyer and his team take to ensure nothing goes wrong. For example,
