OSCAR RAMOS J. A s a lasting tribute to his memory, Oscar Ramos J., who passed away in July of 2015 after working diligently as the SCORE Mexico liaison for 20 years, was selected posthumously as the 2015 SCORE Person of the Year. The award, part of the annual SCORE Off-Roadsman of the Year awards voted on by the SCORE membership, was announced at the SCORE Awards Night on Dec. 12, 2015 held in El Cajon, Calif. Accepting the prestigious award was Oscar's widow, Maritza Ramos on behalf of herself and their son Oscar Ramos Jr. Following in his father's footsteps, Ramos Jr. is attending the same law school 2015 SCORE PERSON OF THE YEAR in Mexico City that his father attended over 20 years earlier. Ramos graduated from Universidad Ibero Americana in 1987, a prestigious private Catholic university under the guidance and supervision of the Jesuit order of priests. He opened his law practice in Tijuana in 1991 where his firm worked on corporate and business law. A practicing attorney in the U.S. and Mexico, Ramos was first introduced to SCORE and then-owner Sal Fish in late 1995 by Juan Tintos Funcke, a two-time Baja California Secretary of Tourism. He was then hired as a consultant by SCORE, and remained in that role even after the company was sold to Roger and Elise Norman in December of 2012. Ramos played a significant role in the development and maintenance of the SCORE- International racing organization that has continued to grow at an international level. While Ramos' helping hands were at their very best in his native Mexico, and in particular in Baja California, his presence and influence assisted SCORE in the United States for races, the annual SCORE Awards Night, and SCORE exhibits at a number of trade shows over the years. To those who knew him, whether racer, sponsor, dignitary, government official, media representative, or part of the legion of SCORE race fans, he was the happy face of SCORE in Baja California Mexico and seemed always just a phone call away. In mid-April of last year, Ramos worked diligently at the inaugural SCORE Baja Sur 500 race in the Mexican state of Baja Sur. Unfortunately he was hospitalized several days after the race in Tijuana when the symptoms of his condition became apparent. In the four-plus decade of SCORE history, Ramos becomes just the fourth winner of the SCORE Person of the Year Award to be honored after their death. The first was Walt Lott (1988), the founder of the old HDRA and co-founder of the former HDRA/SCORE Desert Racing Series. Second was Corky McMillin (2005), the prominent San Diego developer and family patriarch of the three-generation McMillin Racing Team, and OSCAR RAMOS J.
