and began in the Class 1 car." As Reid moved into the Class 1 car, her son Cody had already been racing in a Class 9 vehicle. "My dad was racing when I was born," said Cody Reid. "They started racing in 2006 or 2007. I instantly fell in love with it by the time I was about 12 or 13. It was cool watching my parents race all the time and I wanted to do it too." Kevin and Shelby Reid's racing ways allowed Cody to progress with his own driving skills. Over the years, this ultimately led to two SCORE Class 10 championships. During the 2015 season, Reid captured a Class 10 win at the SCORE Baja Sur 500, and at the SCORE Baja 1000 last November. This made it the second year in a row that Reid has won the SCORE Class 10 points championship. "It was an honor to win the SCORE Baja 1000 in Class 10 and the points championship," said Reid. "It proves to me, as a driver, that the previous year championship win wasn't just luck." Racing with your mom on the team isn't something that too many young racers have to deal with. But for Reid, knowing that Shelby is doing well in the Class 1 car, is just as important as winning in his own division. "It's a blast racing with my mom," said Reid. "We've been out there many times. I recall back when I was 16, she would constantly pass me when we raced in the local series, as I was in a Class 9 car. Now in SCORE, we're not in the same division, but we always want to know how we're doing." One of the advantages of racing with the family is being able to get more information on the course. "Pre-running we're always feeding off each other," said Reid. "I give her my experience on the course and she does the same for me."
