THE DICTATOR 16th MAY
The summer smash you have all been waiting for is here!
That Sacha Baron Cohen's let's-dress-up- and-offend-people shtick hasn't worn thin yet is a testament to his unquestionable level of talent and dedication to his art. For the duration of their respective marketing cam- paigns, Borat and Brüno were more than just future Halloween costumes – they were liv- ing, breathing threats to public safety. The Dictator follows Baron Cohen's latest cre- ation General Aladeen as he takes an ill-fated trip to America where he loses his beard and
is forced to join the rabble on the streets of New York. Director Larry Charles rather bravely ditches the mockumentary slant of Borat and Brüno, but improvisation is still their number one asset. Paired with such gifted comics as Anna Faris, John C. Reilly and The Office's B.J. Novak, Baron Cohen wrings laughs from every scene and works hard to keep the sense spontaneity intact despite the more conventional approach.
