FROM OUR READERS most made it last season, when attrition and injuries scream that they had no cause for such dreams. They've been to the Big Dance six times overall under Beilein, after going without so much as a cha-cha from 1999-2008. They've won a pair of Big Ten championships, some- thing the Fab Five never accomplished. Does the present roster need to develop more, athletically and defen- sively? No question. Do the Wolverines need more difference-makers? Yes, but they don't have to be top-50 prep per- formers, a fact the Burkes, Hardaways, Stauskases and others certainly proved. Like Bo Schembechler, Beilein com- petes within the rules, period. That sep- arates him from a lot of the competition in his sport, in terms of what he can and will do to secure some of the top talent you're referencing. As it is, Michigan basketball fans haven't suffered much over the past few seasons, relatively speaking. ❏ • According to the person who writes "Michigan Mondays," Tony Gerdeman, the Buckeyes' toughest four [football] games, in order, are: at Oklahoma, at Michigan State, at Wisconsin, home against Michigan. What does the board think? jimjim47 • Sounds about right, unfortunately. That game last year was one of the most disappointing U-M-OSU games I've seen in a long time. Just a complete flop. Hank2623 • I see reasons why they would think that. 1. Michigan is a home game. 2. Michigan is late in the season, and they have to fill a lot of spots with new guys. They have plenty of talent to do so, but it will take time to gel. One thing is it is hard to predict college football until you see teams play a couple of games. johnmo • Doesn't bother me. But, in the end, Michigan will prove to be the toughest game and it won't be close. floridawolve • I agree [with floridawolve]. The combination of returning starters, young but talented depth, elite coaching and an easier schedule to start the season will have this group ranked in the top five and riding high (even with a possible loss to Iowa/MSU) into Columbus in November.
