FRANK AND STEVE MCDONOUGH F rank McDonough moved his family to the Valley over 40 years ago to begin a career in the car business. Cur- rently the longest continuously running Toyota dealer- ship in the state, McDonough Toyota has been run by the family since 1975. It was in that year that the dealership became involved in the VAF Car Dealer Program. Recruited to support the 'Hoos by a fellow car dealer, he received a call saying Virginia had hired a new coach and was in need of a ve- hicle. at coach turned out to be women's basketball legend, Debbie Ryan. To this day, a vehicle from McDonough Toyota remains with the women's basketball program. Giving back to the community leads to passion for UVA sports When asked why he agreed to join that day 41 years ago, Frank says, "I have always felt that local businesses have a sense of obligation to support the community and schools in the area." Frank's son Steve, who now runs much of the day-to-day of the business, agrees that supporting Virginia is a way to give back to the community, but adds that cheering on UVA sports has also become a passion. When asked about their favorite Vir- ginia memories, Frank reflected on Saturdays spent tailgating outside Scott Stadium with family and friends, while Steve says without hesitation, "1995, when Virginia beat Florida State with a stop at the goal line."
