HOW TO SPOT IMPORTANT TECH TRENDS, TO START A TECH
COMPANY YOURSELF.
When something happens in the world ask, "Why
did this happen now and not before?" Often
you'll find the answer is an important trend that is
going unnoticed by the mainstream.
When you come across something in the world
that annoys you, ask "Why hasn't this problem
already been solved?". The answer is often that
a current trend hasn't gone far enough yet, and
it will only become possible to solve the problem
once the trend has progressed a little further.
Ask yourself "Is this problem going to get bigger
or smaller over time?" Sometimes the reason a
problem hasn't been solved is because it's too
new, or because it isn't big enough to entice
someone to solve it yet. If the problem is likely
to grow in future, the potential for some kind of
technology to solve it is massive and the potential
for business around this could be lucrative!
If something was over-hyped in the past and
didn't live up to expectations, take Google Glass
for example, ask, "Why wasn't it ready?" Often
you will find the world wasn't ready and it will
take some time for the tech to become more
accepted in general society for it to be big. These
are spaces to keep your eyes on!
