Stephanie O'Brien, the current chair from Vermont, will end her term at the An- nual Convention in Marco Island, where she'll be succeeded by Andrew Deloney of Michigan. This year's convention theme, "Taking Advan- tage of Change," was chosen by O'Brien and con- cludes a year of successful programming around that topic. Deloney has selected "Bridging Divides" as his theme for the coming year, which is appropri- ate given his state's geographic and cultural history. In the past fi ve or so years, the control state system has undergone massive changes. From losing a member to privatization to the retirement or resignation of longtime directors, the consistency that marked the previous decade is long gone. Just within the past year, George Griffi n from Montgomery County, Bruce Stevenson from Ohio and Rob Patridge from Oregon have all have left their posts. And maybe that isn't a negative thing – after all, change can be positive. We see change happening throughout the beverage alcohol industry as suppliers shuffl e brands, wholesalers consolidate and the defi nition of retailers continues to expand. Sometimes, keeping up with those changes requires new leadership. And by rotating its Chairman- ship on an annual basis, NABCA provides leadership opportunities for directors who are new to the industry. I've met Chairman Deloney a number of times and worked with him on past profi les in this magazine. He'll be an asset to NABCA in his new role, and provide leadership for the control system as it works to bridge divides across the industry.
