But the latter made a couple of plays vs. Minnesota, twice tackling a running back near the line of scrimmage. Phillips had a nice game off the bench, with five tackles, two for loss. 2. Jalani Phillips 89 6-4, 260, So. Weakside Linebacker 1. Sean Robinson 10 Defensive Tackle 1. Kawann Short 93 6-4, 315, Sr. (5) 25 tackles, 9 TFL, 4 sacks, 2 PBU, 1 FR, 1 FF, 4 blk kick* Short missed the second half of the Minnesota game, wearing street clothes on the sideline, after injuring an ankle during a hit on Gopher quarterback Philip Nelson. Before the injury, he had a couple of tack- les. Rouse had one in the second half. 2. Michael Rouse 97 6-4, 295, R-Fr. 6-3, 240, So. 16 tackles* Robinson has started the last two games, as Purdue has turned to the inexperienced former quarterback over the veteran Lucas. Robinson had three tackles, while Lucas came off the bench to chip in six. 2. Will Lucas 45 5-11, 230, Jr. Cornerback 1. Ricardo Allen 21 5-9, 186, Jr. 21 tackles, 1 TFL, 1 int., 1 PBU* Allen doesn't yet look right, as he deals with a shin injury that has kept him from being anywhere near 100-percent. He missed the Ohio State game before returning for Minnesota. But he had only a tackle. Williams had one, too. 2. Frankie Williams 6 5-9, 186, R-Fr. Middle Linebacker 1. Joe Gilliam 39 Defensive Tackle 1. Bruce Gaston 90 6-2, 303, Jr. 16 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 FR, 1 FF* Gaston had two tackles and forced a fumble in the second quarter that was recovered by Minnesota. The Gophers continued the drive and scored, going up 24-7. Taylor, like KK Short, hurt his left ankle and missed the second half. 2. Brandon Taylor 55 6-1, 295, Jr. 6-1, 227, So. 32 tackles, 1 FF* Purdue's not getting a lot of playmaking from its linebackers, and that includes Gilliam. He had four tackles in Purdue's loss. Higgs had two tackles, including a hard hit on the Minny QB behind the line of scrimmage. 2. Antwon Higgs 5 6-3, 246, Sr. Free Safety 1. Taylor Richards 4 Strong Safety 5-10, 192, So. 29 tackles, 0.5 sacks, 3 PBU, 1 punt blk.* Three times, Purdue bit on pump fakes by Minnesota QB Philip Nelson, including one by Richards. Each of the three resulted in long touchdown passes; it was probably the ugliest part of an ugly game. Senior Quinn is also playing in games. 2. Chris Quinn 29 5-11, 191, Sr. Defensive End 1. Ryan Russell 99 6-5, 275, So. • 24 tackles, 5.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 1 PBU* Russell's not quite been the same since tweaking a knee early in the season. But he had four tackles against the Gophers, one on a third-and-short that forced a fourth down. Unfortunately for Purdue, Minnesota converted the fourth- and-1 into a long touchdown. 2. Greg Latta 91 6-6, 265, Jr. Strongside Linebacker 1. Robert Maci 58 6-4, 249, Sr. (5) 19 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 1 sack, 2 FF* Maci lined up at defensive end to start the game and played both positions. But he was held to only a tackle and it came on Minnesota's first offensive snap of the game. Ezenwa chipped in a couple tackles. 2. Nnamdi Ezenwa 18 6-2, 225, Sr. (5) 1. Landon Feichter 44 6-0, 189, So. 49 tackles, 4 int., 3 PBU* Feichter got trucked a couple times against the big running backs of the Gophers. He's a solid contributor, but not big enough to stand up at times on the line of scrimmage. But he led Purdue with eight tackles and knocked down a third-down pass. 2. Max Charlot 34 6-0, 201, Sr. Cornerback 1. Josh Johnson 28 5-11, 195, Sr. 32 tackles, 2 TFL, 3 int., 9 PBU, 1 FR, 1 FF* Johnson had seven tackles and a pass breakup, but uncharacteristically got sucked in on a play-fake by Minnesota. The result was a long TD pass. Normondo Harris is not playing (knee), meaning freshman Anthony Brown is getting some snaps. 2. Anthony Brown 9 5-11, 185, Fr.
