Hope remains optimistic that he can salvage enough victories to get the Boilermakers to the postseason, but he also recognizes there is little mar- gin for error. This Week In Purdue History remain his starting quarterback. After losses at Wisconsin and Penn State, where Painter was benched in the second half, the redshirt freshman helps the Boilermakers to a 28-21 win over Michigan State four days later. In all, Painter started 40 straight games, the most consecutive starts by a Boilermaker quarterback in history.
