The announcement came 11 days earlier than expected as the Tampa bowl tabbed the Boilermakers and their hot junior quarterback Drew Brees early to get a jump on ticket sales. The Boilermaker faithful didn't disappoint, as nearly 25,000 traveled to South Florida for the New Year's Day contest. Nov. 25, 2000 • Just a year later, the Boilermaker basketball team pulled off a surprise of its own, upsetting No. 1 Arizona in Indianapo- lis. Purdue was led in scoring by Rodney Smith, who scored 20 points playing in his hometown. It is the Boilermakers' most recent win over a top-ranked foe. Nov. 27, 1902 • Purdue and Notre Dame play to a 6-6 tie in the most recent deadlock in the series. The contest is played at Purdue's Stuart Field located where the Armory is today.
