Former Skaters Couldn't Find Tights to Match Their Skin, So They Founded A Company , Aurora Tights, a black woman-owned team, is composed of a figure skater, synchronized ice skater, and a competitive dancer with more than 60 years of performing experience com- bined. They each grew up wearing tights that were too pale for their complexion and collectively felt marginalized, unheard, and unseen in the sports that they loved. "It was hard. Imagine com- peting, getting your photos, and being ashamed of them," Imani Rickerby, co-founder of Aurora Tights, explains. Jasmine, another co-founder of Aurora Tights, used to dye her tights in a bathtub before every competition. Instead of leaving a whole population of performers out, Aurora Tights seeks to bring them to center stage embracing, ice skaters and dancers of all shades and sizes. They offer five shades in five styles and seven sizes. Each of their shade names honor perform- ers and students that have inspired the founding team during their tenure in their respective sports. Sports like ice skating, dance, and other athletic experiences are quickly diversifying. People of color are no longer settling for apparel and brands that solely accommodate lighter complexions.
