USICERINKS.COM JULY.AUGUST.2020 / 33 The Mullett Ice Center in Hartland, Wisconsin, recently took on a header trench project during a two-month shutdown period. The current system had been in place and nearly undisturbed for 22 years. We had two spots that had some discoloration in the ice paint, one over the header and one on an end loop. We decided to take advantage of some down time and repair and inspect all the connections. The entire project was spread out over two months. Fortunately, no major repairs were needed. About 175 internal rink staff hours were used for the majority of this project. The biggest external expense was $2,500 for the X-ray company. We are hoping the effort of this project prolongs the life of the header connections. , 14 pipes that came off the main header were X-rayed to determine internal wear. We also inspected four end loops.
