Santiago Creel Wins On Four Wheels The Multi-Talented Racer Takes His First SCORE Trophy Truck Spec Win By Dan Sanchez The Monkey Business Race team has, over the last few years, left their mark in SCORE off-road racing. Starting with several motorcycle teams in various classes, they are led by team owner Mark Winkelman and Pro Moto racer Santiago Creel. At a typical SCORE race, Creel would start with the Pro Moto Unlimited 66x team, then ride a section for their 100x Pro Moto Limited Championship team, and then hop on the team’s 360X Pro Moto 30 bike, all in one race. The multi-tasking racer added driving a SCORE Trophy Truck Spec to his resume, and did it with a definitive “we can do it all” statement by winning the class at the 52nd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 500. “I started with the Pro Moto Unlimited 66x team at 3 am on race day, and then I passed the bike to Brandon Prieto,” said Creel. “I wish I could have ridden more miles on the bike.” Creel qualified fifth during SCORE Trophy Truck Spec qualifying runs and had several experienced racers, including top qualifier Clay Lawrence ahead of him. “We planned to hit our marks and not to make mistakes,” said Creel. “It all went very smooth, we didn’t even puncture a tire or go off-course. Towards the end of the race, we saw that we had the chance to win so we started pushing, and around race-mile 430, we made a pass for the win.” This win is Creel’s first in the SCORE Trophy Truck Spec class, and it puts him in the first starting position for the 53rd BFGoodrich Tires SCORE Baja 1000 in November. “Since the beginning of the race, we were aiming for a top spot,” says Creel. “We knew it would be difficult to win the class, but we had been working on this since we started the TT Spec project. We will have to take advantage of the top starting position at the SCORE Baja 1000 and from there, try to have a smooth race, hitting our marks and not pushing the vehicle to get to the finish line and hopefully, for a win.”
