® 3 END OF YEAR REPORT 2024 Approved for distribution outside of the LoRa Alliance ® ® It is with tremendous excitement that I reach out to all of you to share the hard work and achievements of the LoRa Alliance ® in 2024 and share a look ahead to 2025. This is an exciting time for the Alliance. I am extremely honored by the Board's confidence in me to lead the LoRa Alliance as we navigate the digital transformation and rollout of Massive IoT. For those of you not familiar with my background, I served eight years as Chair of the Technical Committee and six years as Alliance Vice Chair, representing member company Actility, in addition to having 25 years of experience with wireless communication standards and alliance leadership, including the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI), and the Zigbee Alliance. Over the past 12 months, we have seen IoT's acceleration in digitizing the planet and beyond. As the internet connects people, IoT will connect everything else and serve as the bridge between the physical and digital worlds. But more importantly, this digital transformation is necessary for humanity's evolution, with immense potential to help people and the planet while driving economic growth. Low power wide area networking (LPWAN) technologies are an essential part of this digital 'nervous system' and LoRaWAN ® owns its well-earned place as a foundational technology and market-leading LPWAN technology. Backed by our global ecosystem, we have made Massive IoT a reality and are rapidly scaling deployments. A Look Back at 2024 Our work as an Alliance in 2024 is driving our current success. Early this year, we showcased the evolution of the LoRaWAN standard including our technical priorities and direction. It focused on how we have, and will, support the expansion of addressable markets, hyperscaling, core network management, certification, and physical/link layer development. I am pleased to share that we remain on track with feature development to expand and enhance the LoRaWAN standard. Specific areas of focus in the Technical Committee this year included the development of low-cost and practical coverage extension through Relay, and satellite (NTN) networks, as well as the initiation of walk/drive-by reading development. We also continued the adaptation of LoRaWAN to existing IoT app domains by adding GS1/RFID support and initiated work on plug-and-play to reduce the cost of operation and ease of deployment. Finally, we progressed our work on increasing interoperability on the core network by defining network server-gateway (NS-GW) and network server-application server (NS-AS) interfaces. Of our work areas, none is more important than scalability. Our continued push to make LoRaWAN easier to deploy and use is precisely why it is the foundational technology for Massive IoT. The notion of scalability plays out across all our strengths. LoRaWAN is A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE A HISTORIC CONTRIBUTION TO THE PLANET AND HUMANITY Alper Yegin, CEO, LoRa Alliance ®
