PullUSA: What got you involved in clay target sports? Joseph Henry: I became involved with trap shooting because my uncle Doug Mayer asked me to shoot for the school team. He is an assistant coach, and my cousin was on the team as well. I have con- tinued shooting for the General McLane High School team for the last four years because I have been surrounded with good people and I have a lot of fun. PullUSA: What's the best advice you can give to less experienced athletes? Henry: Don't let your score get to your head and have fun. Having great coaches and fel- low teammates who stick with you through the bad and good times are another key component. Be supportive of each other. PullUSA: Do you have any pre-com- petition rituals that help you stay focused on the line? Henry: Clearing my head and focusing on one bird at a time. I do like to have certain drinks and snacks on hand for when I need a refreshment. I don't consider them a habit or a ritual, but it's something that I know will keep me hydrated and give me nourishment when I need it. PullUSA: What do you enjoy outside of the League? Henry: When I am not trap shooting, you can find me outside working on my truck or another project, hunting, fishing, or at a field shooting skeet or sporting clays. It is very peaceful for me and it's never the same, always a different adventure. PullUSA: Anyone you'd like to thank? Henry: I would like to thank my coaches for always making it fun, while still being a safe and competitive environment. Each issue of PullUSA features different high school clay target athletes exhibiting exceptional character and passion for the sport and their communities. ✪ THE LEAD ON T HE L INE T HERE ARE TWO REASONS JOSEPH HENRY continues to thrive in the Pennsylvania State High School Clay Target League: It's fun and full of good people.
