EFORE MORGAN STICKNEY was setting records with the U.S. Under- 18 Women's National Team or backstopping for Shattuck-St. Mary's at the Chipotle-USA Hockey Girls National Championship, she was just a California kid playing street hockey with her brother, Parker. Growing up in Manhattan Beach, Calif., hockey was more than just a pastime for Stickney – it was a way of life. Stickney was not just following her brother's lead – she was also forging her own path. "I went to my brother's games, and I eventually wanted to try it," Stickney said. "His best friend was a goalie, and I thought it looked really cool, and then my mom let me one day, and the team I was playing for needed a goalie, so I just stayed with it." Her early development came with the Los Angeles Jr. Kings and she later made the transition to Shattuck- St. Mary 's in Faribault, Minnesota. "I visited the school when I was 10 just for fun because we had extra time after playing a tournament in Minnesota, and I loved it," Stickney said. "Then I went to a Shattuck hockey camp in the summer of 2021 and met the coaches and absolutely loved it."
