This Week In Purdue History
Dec. 13, 1977 • In a hard-fought non-conference game, Purdue loses a 68-66 heartbreaker at Louisville on a
last-second game-winning shot. But the loss was soon forgotten. On the way home, the Boilermakers learned of
the tragic plane crash earlier the same evening involving the entire University of Evansville basketball team. It was
the same plane that had delivered Purdue to Louisville the night before and was scheduled to take the Boilermakers back before its ill-fated trip.
Dec. 11, 2005 • The Purdue women's team needed a furious comeback of their own, battling back from a
13-point second half deficit to defeat Valparaiso in the Hoopla Classic played in Fort Wayne. The
Boilermakers trailed 41-28 with 16:48 left before Coach Kristy Curry decided to employ a fullcourt press. That, and Katie Gearlds' 28 points, delivered No. 24 Purdue to the 70-55 win.
Dec. 12, 2009 • In one of its greatest comebacks in school history, No. 5 Purdue battled back
from a 16-point second-half deficit to win at Alabama 73-65. Led by the defense of Chris Kramer,
the Boilermakers held the Crimson Tide without a field goal in the game's final nine minutes. Robbie Hummel led Purdue in scoring with 23 points and Purdue improved to 9-0 for the first time in
16 seasons.
