5 Contributions Increased Across All Types of Givers Giving increased across different donor sources, with strong upticks in donations by individuals, foundations, and corporations. The average individual donor gave $1,165 in 2017, and household giving rose to an average of $2,271. In terms of tax itemization for deductions, non-itemizers gave 3.3% more in 2017 than 2016, and giving by itemizers grew by 5.6%. Corporations increased their giving in 2017 by 8%—a reflection of the strong economy and optimistic business outlook.
