DRUM N BASS / DUBSTEP 39 7 www.guestlist.net Issue 47 / 2013 ALBUM OF THE MONTH EVOLUTION THEORY GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS AXI Its official! Modestep will be releasing their highly anticipated debut album on January 14th. The dubstep/ rock group first hit our charts in 2011 with 'Sunlight', which stayed in the official charts for several weeks. The North London group then went on to release singles such as 'Feel Good' and 'Show Me A Sign' which had the same success. Modestep have treated us to some new tracks including 'Praying For Silence' featuring Document One, which was actually written about the 2011 London riots and 'Another Day' featuring Popeska. Also 'Evolution Theory' – the song the album was named after - features D Power, Jammin, Frisco & Jammer, which begins with a slashing of Grime and turns into a full-on blown Dubstep monster. Evolution Theory promises to take Modestep's music to the masses and I don't doubt it! Also shortly after the release of their debut album, they will be touring the UK starting from the 2nd of February! With 13 exclusive dates you won't want to miss out! EVENT REVIEW DMZ 8TH BIRTHDAY If you haven't heard of this drum and bass artist from Belgium, we suggest you get on Youtube right now and listen to a track called by him called Receptor... Axi is making it hard, fast and downright electrifying. He's been messing around with musical instruments since a young age and learned digital music production at a music academy, where he learned to play the drums. Then at 15 the stars aligned and he discovered Drum and Bass. After tasting some DnB parties Axi knew he'd found his calling. Fast forward a few months and he has collected some old records, bought a mixer and is practising on some old turntables. In 2001 Axi bought a PC and started experimenting with producing, subsequently forming a partnership with Crossfire(dsci4) and playing sound Drum and Bass parties with him in Belgium. However eventually our friend decided to focus more on his producing interests and managed to get his tracks noticed by Thesis from Atlanta who recognized this mystery man's talents and signed him straight up to his label Corinthian Recordings. It's now 2013 and the lonesome producer has released numerous Singles and EPs for Corinthian Recordings and some newer releases on both Fallout and Mindtech recordings. The future is looking very bright for this young talent. Watch this space! NEW MUSIC OF THE MONTH We give you hottest tunes, mixes and free downloads to check out this month... Come meditate on bass-weight! To say that we are excited about this one is an understatement! Having followed the label and the DMZ parties since we were skanking out at the legendary venue that was the Mass in Brixton, the pioneers in bass music are back and this year bringing the meditation and good vibrations to Great Suffolk Warehouse in London Bridge. DMZ is all about good music where people gather from all over the world to come, enjoy and appreciate. It is the scenes spiritual playground and with its raw atmosphere and bass sound system - magic happens. What is clearly common amongst the crowd is one factor- their passion for music and Mala, Coki and Loefah carry that torch. With little advertising, the popularity of this night has grown on word of mouth and is considered to be alongside FWD>> as the two key pivotal club nights that have influenced dubstep music. The line-up is yet to be announced, though we are sure it will be representing some of Croydon's finest and of course the dons that are Mala, Coki and Loefah. For those that know about Anti War Dub, "We don't wanna fight tonight/Let's all unite" this ultimately sums up the vibe of this party and in their new spot in London Bridge we are sure that they are going to smash it. Guaranteed to be a roadblock we highly suggest that you get your tickets now as it will sell out! Birthday big- ups going out to the DMZ crew- we will see you at the front! 1. Delta Heavy Empire 4. Cookie Monsta Yow Mamma 2. Swindle Unholy War 3. Elijah & Skilliam Old Skool Grime Mix 5. Danny Byrd Love You Like This
