THE POWER PLAYERS Engine Masters Who Provide The Heart Of Off-Road Racing’s Progression In Speed And Reliability By Dan Sanchez It takes more than just raw horsepower to propel a racing vehicle ever faster across the Baja desert. Reliability makes a winner, and when it comes to powering the drivetrains of SCORE Trophy Trucks, Class 1 vehicles, or SCORE TT Spec trucks, there are four popular engine builders that rise to the top. Engine experts like Ray Field, Kevin Kroyer, Adam Wik, and Leon Patton can make horsepower from just about any engine, but their mastery of the minute details that make those engines last over a 1000 miles on the world’s toughest off-road race course is something that has taken them decades of experience. While there are many off-road engine masters building race-winning powerplants in every size and make, SCORE Journal salutes these four individuals who are currently making the sport better in every way. Like true masters of their craft, they are not done learning and continue to find ways to adapt, learn, and provide the power to win.
