2022 OVERLANDING GUIDE Products For Venturing Out Where No One Else Will By Dan Sanchez Overlanding is nothing new to SCORE Baja fans and off-road enthusiasts. While we’ve been venturing out into primitive campsites and locations for decades, the outdoor aftermarket has finally caught up with great gear that can make some things a bit easier out there. With an abundance of products available, we’ve collected some that have caught our attention with their design, durability, and capability. Prinsu UTV Roof Rack The CBI Roof rack from Prinsu, adds storage to your four-seater UTV. It’s designed to work with aluminum roofs and without roofs. It’s made from lightweight aluminum and features a low-profile design with wind deflector, and multiple crossbars with drop points for easy mounting. Available for 2014 – 2020 model Polaris RZR XP models and 900 models. MSRP $810 Zoleo Satellite Communicator The Zoleo satellite communicator links with your smartphone or tablet to offer seamless global 2-way messaging wherever your adventures may take you. MSRP $200 Yakima LockNLoad Platform Rack This low profile rack system hauls everything from rooftop tents to jerry cans and offers a multitude of options for maximizing off-road capacity. The Yakima LockNLoad rack can be used with additional accessories, sold separately, such as an LED light bar bracket, spare wheel restraint, Hi-Lift Jack holder and more. Available in three sizes with load raging s from 165 to 440 lbs. the rack can fit a multitude of trucks and SUVs. MSRP $729-$979 Yakima OutPost HD  Yakima’s mid-height designed truck rack offers a low center of gravity with easy access to gear. The platform on the OutPost HD can carry a maximum capacity of 500 lbs. and is a great foundation for a fully-loaded overland rack system. Available in various length Yakima HD Bar cross bars (sold separately) and an available SideBar, to mount accessories. MSRP $399 Tepui Basin Wedge Tent The Tepui Basin Wedge features a hard-shell roof and sets up in under a minute. Easy to install mounting brackets securely lock the tent to your vehicle and it comes with a telescoping ladder and foam mattress with removable cover. MSRP $3,499.95 Tuff Stuff Elite Roof Top Tent The Elite series rooftop tent from Tuff Stuff Overland is the largest rooftop tent they offer for families of four or more. It is offered with or without the lower annex room which provides additional shelter and privacy. MSRP $2,499 Smittybilt Gen2 Tent The All-New, Smittybilt Gen2 Overlander from 4WP has been developed for rigorous and repetitive outdoor use. The new tents are built tough, stay dry, and offer simple setup and teardown. his feature-rich roof-top tent has been engineered for strength and maximum durability, utilizing a thicker and larger frame design and a heavy-duty 600D rip stop skin.  DOMETIC GO SERIES COMPACT CAMP All camp chairs are not alike. Some simply provide a place for your rump. Others deliver comfort, support, and easy set-up, fold-down, and storage. The mate-product to the Jug is the Dometic Hydration Faucet. Designed to work with the Water Jug (or any water container), the Hydration Faucet transforms a water container into a running water system with a one-touch operation, a magnetic base, and no external power source required. Bubba Rope More than a recovery strap, the Bubba Rope has a braking strength of 28,600 pounds and utilizes kinetic energy that was first used to get military vehicles out of stuck situations. The 100 percent nylon double braided rope features a Gator-ize vinyl polymer coating to protect it from moisture, ultra violet rays and abrasions. MSRP $240 Warn 16.5ti Winch The Warn 16.5ti is one of the most popular with 16,500 lbs. of pulling capacity. The winch is available with 80-feet of 3/8-inch lightweight Spydura® Pro synthetic rope with heat-treated construction that provides maximum tensile strength, and the temperature-resistant sleeve on the first layer provides maximum heat protection. This winch also features a thermometric indicator which provides operator feedback during the winching process, and is great for the biggest, heaviest vehicles on or off the pavement. The UltraHook XTV features a Closed System Shackle Mount hole machined into the body of the hook, along with a safety latch retraction pocket that provides a clear throat opening. The UltraHook XTV also has an integrated secondary safety latch locking feature-latch locking pin stored in the body, which can be removed and inserted EPDM rubber pads for fairlead protection, and can be stored against your fairlead protecting either your hawse or roller style fairlead from a metal to metal connection. MSRP $280 PRO EAGLE 2 TON BIG WHEEL OFF-ROAD JACK Pro Eagle’s 2 Ton Big Wheel Off-Road Jack uses strong solid axles and large non-pneumatic wheels to give it the strength and capability to easily roll over sand, pebbles, and other obstacles. Weighing in at 52 lbs. It features a full-length steel skid plate to prevent sinking on sand and damage to internal components. It has an 8-inch adjustable extension or optional 15-inch extension to lift high vehicles, a detachable aluminum handle, and sealed ball bearings for smooth rolling and operation in dusty and sandy conditions. MSRP $529.99. PHOENIX AIR JACK (photo Phoenix dunes 2)  Pro Eagle’s Phoenix Air Jack is a light, portable CO2 operated jack for UTVs and other lightweight off-road vehicles. The 100% stainless steel jack has over 2 feet of adjustable lift height and a wide base for use in soft dirt or sand. A CO2 regulator controls speed in lift and release modes. Uses 20-25 gram CO2 canisters for operation and unit comes with four cartridges. Weighs 5.6 pounds and can be mounted to roll cage with quick-release holder. MSRP $449.99. TRED Pro™ Recovery Board TRED Pro™ is the next generation of the company’s vehicle recovery device that provides traction when a vehicle is stuck in sand, snow, or mud. MSRP $329.99 AUD MAXTRAX XTREME RECOVERY BOARD The MAXTRAX Xtreme Recovery Board is designed for professional use by the military, off-road racers, expedition leaders, and 4WD driver trainers. The Xtreme Boards feature 88 replaceable anodized alloy teeth in a heavy-duty, reinforced nylon track. The corrosion-resistant teeth can easily be replaced in the field if they are damaged using a T-50 Torx bit. The safety orange boards weigh 20 pounds per pair. MSRP is $499.99. SPEEDSTRAP RECOVERY STRAP The Super Strap Weave-able Recovery Strap is SpeedStraps’s 1-inch wide strap for UTVs, and features a rating for 7,000 pounds working strength. Simply wrap the strap around a good tow point, weave it back into itself, and pull!  No metal parts and no shackles needed. Available in 20’, 30’, or 50’ lengths. MSRP from $36.00-$102.99. VIAIR Automatic Deployment Air Systems VIAIR Automatic Deployment Air Systems (ADA) incorporate a 12-port extruded aluminum air tank to provide a compact air locker and tire inflation station for virtually any vehicle using either a 400C (Heavy Duty) or 450C (Constant Duty) compressor at its core. ADA Systems come complete with a pressure switch, automatic coupler, Digital Tire Inflation Kit, and a wiring harness to make the installation a plug & play process. Base Model Kits are also available with limited accessories. MSRP $295-$399 SMITTYBILT GEN3 XRC WINCH Smittybilt’s new Gen3 XRC Winch uses a 7 HP motor while a re-engineered internal rotor improves efficiency to also allow it to draw less amperage. It uses forged steel gears, rather than stamped steel for higher durability and to pull more load at a faster speed. An exclusive load indicator on the remote helps prevent over-taxation of the motor and line by providing continuous information on the stress on the winch. Remote also features a dual magnet mount and a flashlight.
