(16.3 ppg) and also averaged 4.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds. Junior Ross Travis, only 6-6, could emerge into a double-double threat (7.4 ppg, 7.0 rpg), but he's surrounded by underclassmen in the frontcourt. 11 NORTHWESTERN Tom Campbell Tim Frazier missed last season with an Achilles' injury but still expects to be one of the league's most dynamic scorers. 10 PENN STATE 10-21, 2-16 (12th) Patrick Chambers still is in rebuilding mode in State College, but his team will have a chance every game by virtue of having one of the most dynamic scoring backcourts in the conference. Tim Frazier, who is back for a fifth season after an Achilles' injury last year, is an all-Big Ten first-team performer. He's the perfect point guard, the quickness to guard tightly, a legit 20-point scorer but also led the league in assists in 2011-12 (6.2 pg). And his return allows D.J. Newbill to move back to his natural shooting guard spot — a year after Newbill showed he can perform as an all-conference player, too. Newbill is the leading returning scorer in the league f 13-19, 4-14 (11th) First-year coach Chris Collins is charged with revving up the excitement in Evanston. That'll start by implementing new styles of play, namely moving away from a Princeton-style offense. Collins is expected to tailor his concepts to the talent, so he's fortunate to have a pair of pivotal players back who missed last season. And they'll have the ball a lot — with a competent point guard in Dave Sobolewski (4.0 apg) to feed it to them. Drew Crawford, a 6-5 wing, is one of the conference's best players when he's healthy. A shoulder injury knocked him out for the bulk of last season, but he's scored 1,400 points in his career and has started 110 games. He'll be counted on to produce double-digit points nightly and could be needed to crash the boards more consistently. JerShon Cobb missed last season because of academics, but he's another wing who could be an offensive threat and will be expected to greatly improve on his 7.3 points per game career average. 12 NEBRASKA 15-18, 5-13 (10th) Doesn't matter that Nebraska hasn't played in the NCAA Tournament since 1998, its fans apparently are still pumped about the season. Already, the new $179-million arena and its 15,000-plus seats are sold out for the season. Now, second-year coach Tim Miles' team must make some strides. Those likely will need to start with an improved offense — the Cornhuskers averaged only 56.3 points in league play last season, ranking No. 11 in the conference. And leading scorer Dylan Talley graduated. That could put pressure on returning starter Ray Gallegos (12.5 ppg) and seven newcomers, including three transfers. j IllustrateD volume 24, issue 2 51
