Boilermaker coaches have run down every ground ball they can looking for available bigs, a search that'll very likely extend into the spring, when Purdue will have a bevy of scholarships to survey the high school, prep school, junior PURDUE'S CLASS OF 2014 TO DATE Hometown/ Pos. HeightWeight High School Vince Edwards F 6-7 210 Franklin, Ohio/Middletown Scouting Report: Edwards is an extremely versatile and basketball savvy wing player who'll play the "4" forward position at Purdue, in a matchup-based sort of role, in much the same capacity the Boilermakers used Robbie Hummel. Edwards' ability to handle the ball and shoot allow him to play on the perimeter while still having enough post know-how to his game to be effective inside, though he's certainly not the biggest, strongest interior presence. The long-time Purdue target has always been at his best when playing at a high energy level. Dakota Mathias G 6-5 190 Elida, Ohio/Elida Scouting Report: Known as a shooter, Mathias may be the most versatile "shooter" Purdue has recruited under Matt Painter. He's big and more physical than typical spot-up types and can make all types of jump shots, not just threes. He's as effective a mid-range shooter — he's quick to shoot long turnarounds out of postups — as he is long range and his background playing point guard for his high school and summer teams have sharpened his playmaking ability as a ballhandler and passer. Defense will be an adjustment at the college level, but the big guard does play with distinct toughness and a competitive streak, which will certainly help. Tom Campbell Class of 2014 commits Vince Edwards (left) and Dakota Mathias are top 150 players in their class. college and fifth-year transfer markets again. Purdue will not worry about who it didn't get this fall, but rather who it did. Buy Subaru and keep Indiana driving. Lafayette, Indiana built 2012 Subaru Legacy Jacquil Taylor F 6-10 215Cambridge, Mass./Beaver Country Day Scouting Report: Probably more of a long-term prospect, Taylor is tall, long and athletic for his height, but coming off a foot injury that cost him most of the spring and the summer, so the Boilermaker coaches offered him based off what they saw prior to the injury. Taylor believes he's further along at this point as a defensive player and will likely need time to get bigger and stronger, and completely get past his injury.
