, Sixteen days, 88 nations and 98 events in seven sports. The 2014 Olympic Winter Games brought more than 2,800 athletes to Sochi, Russia, where Team USA's figure skaters left their names in the history books. Boasting competition for 15 separate disciplines of sport, the 2014 Olympic Winter Games hosted 12 more events than the 2010 Games in Vancouver, British Columbia, and 14 more than the 2006 Games in Turin, Italy. One of the events added to Olympic competition this year was the Figure Skating Team Event. The inaugural team event proved to be a favorite among participants, each jumping at the chance to earn an additional medal for the first time of the modern Games. By the event's conclusion, Team USA could call itself one of the first teams to stand on the team event podium, earning 60 total points and the bronze medal. Making history of their own, Meryl Davis and Charlie White went on to win the gold medal in their individual event, marking the first time a U.S. team has topped the Olympic podium in ice dance. Paired with the team event bronze and the silver they won at the 2010 Games, Davis and White now own an Olympic medal of every color and have tied the record for most figure skating Olympic medals in U.S. history. The duo adds the achievement to a long list of firsts for the U.S. in Ice Dance, including becoming the first team to win six U.S. Championships, five Grand Prix Finals and two World Championships. "It's something you dream about — having the opportunity — and we put in the work every day," White said after their victory. "To make it happen is a tribute to our partnership. It's been an amazing journey, and we couldn't be more proud."
