It is an exciting time in the media world as there are many opportunities for racers and teams. But the definition of “media” has changed over the last 15 years, and just recently, has changed again in a way that leaders in the media world are pushing the boundaries. This means that your savvy race team can take full advantage of new and exciting opportunities. Lets start with what we know. Media is television, radio, magazines, newspapers, billboards, movies and the Internet. These are all outlets, defined as the main means of mass communication. In this way, media can be categorized as either Static or Social. Static means that there is no engagement. You read the newspaper. You watch television, and listen to the radio. Static Media is a means of communication that is fixed, cannot be altered and has no interaction with the listener or viewer. In the last decade, we have added what we now conversationally call Social Media. Social Media allows us to engage in a conversation with the person that is posting information to a mass audience. In this form of media, we are able to comment, speculate, argue and approve. Take your Facebook page or a forum thread, as an example. People reply to posts and add their own comments, and share your information with others.
