The second most common issue
was based on the certificate arena's are
required to post where the public can see.
The inspection also found that some are-
nas could do a better job maintaining the
monitoring equipment.
Here are some tips from
the MDH:
• Properly document calibration, leak
testing, bump testing.
• Make sure you don't have expired
tubes or calibration gas.
• Electronic monitors: Following guid-
ance from ISEA, MDH is recom-
mending two options for bump testing.
Option 1: Bump test prior to each
day's use. Option 2: Bump test prior
to each day's use. After 10 uses, if the
device consistently reads correctly and
you don't need to calibrate, then you
can lengthen the amount of time in
between bump tests.
• Time between bump tests should not
exceed 30 days.
• Document, document, document.
• The new rule includes testing after
using any internal combustion engine
in an arena, including paint carts, man
lifts, and even running a car on the ice
as a promotion. J
Mike Bauer served with 23 other stakeholders on
the advisory committee representing ice arena
managers, ice resurfacer vendors, doctors, medical
professionals and user groups.
