As far as hip-hop legends go.. Not many come better and none come more underrated and overlooked by the industry than Pharoahe Monch. Since starting off his career as one half of rap duo Organized Konfusion in the late eighties, Monch has since gone on to establish his own cult following and success as a solo artist. Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Monch delivers his rhymes with an approach he has described as "Verbal Architecture." Monch is highly respected and rated rapper amongst his peers for his subject manner, lyrics and unique complex rapping style. His biggest mainstream success to date was the 1999 release of 'Internal Affairs.' The album is a must listen for any true hip-hop fan and features his instantly- recognised classic 'Simon Says,' which remains a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and is still found in many DJs playlists. Monch continues tour and release new music. (We Are Renegades)' offered a throwback to '90s rap, but with a contemporary vibe. It's a very socially-conscious album, with commentary on social and politi- cal problems in American society from wars overseas to the ongo- ing suppression felt by black communities. The album displays how his versatility and rhyming technique has not diminished over time, from the gospel influ- enced tracks like 'Shine' ft Mela Machinko and 'Let My People Go' to the more hardcore 'Assassins' featuring Royce Da 5'9" and Jean Grae. Monch is an embodiment of the style and sound from the golden era of hip-hop. And if you haven't yet heard much from his catalogue, we highly recommend that you check out anything from his 'Organized Konfusion' days till present and guarantee that you will be able to hear for yourself what it is that makes him not just one of the most consistent MC's of all time but also a true hip-hop legend.
