2016 BASKETBALL RECRUITING ISSUE "Benji, Trey's dad, had him prepared when he went to Michigan, and that's the same avenue I'm trying to take with X," Quincey Simpson said. "There are a lot of similarities. They are the same size, and like Trey, X is a killer. He feels like he's not going to back down from nothin' or nobody, and he had that in him at a young age. "Going there, he's going to be a great teammate. I think Coach Beilein will enjoy coaching him, and Xavier will enjoy even more learning from Coach." Like Burke, Simpson didn't even become a Michigan target until relatively late in his senior year. U-M had invested a lot of time in Detroit U-D Jesuit's Cassius Winston, but when Winston dragged his feet Simpson became a very real option. About a month after the two sides started talking, the conversation got very serious. "I didn't feel disrespected by it at all," Simpson said. "When they came in kind of late, I was kind of surprised, but all the coaches were honest, all of them were first class and it felt like home. "It was close to home, it's a good education and they produce players for the next level. I felt like it was a great spot for me to go." What's next, he said, is just to "keep going" and prove he can be just as good at the next level as he was in high school. His father, who lost his skepticism long ago, knows better than to doubt him. "He's done it better than anyone I've ever been around as far as having the approach of wanting to get better,"
