Goodyear said its recall affected tires manufactured last year between Jan. 24 and May 28 and that some Volvo and Paccar trucks also could be affected. Daimler's recall covers 863 Cascadia, 122SD and Business Class M2 models manufactured last year between Jan. 24 and Oct. 10. • U.S. Rep. Bill Shuster (R-Pa.) was reelected by House Republicans to chair the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in the 115th Congress, which spans from January 2017 through 2018. The committee is responsible for legislation spanning all modes of transportation and for overseeing the U.S. Department of Transportation. Shuster has chaired the committee since 2014. • An American Transportation Research Institute report sug- geststhe impacts of autonomous vehicle technology on the trucking industry could include significant safety and productivity benefits. The report was identified earlier this year by ATRI's Research Advisory Committee as the industry's top research priority. Chris Spear, American Trucking Associations presi- dent and chief executive officer, said the research underscores the impor- tance of the trucking industry having a seat at the table as autonomous vehicle issues are debated. • Sunco Carriers, doing business as Watkins Refrigerated (CCJ Top 250, No. 250), was acquired by private equity firm KJM Capital; terms were not disclosed. Watkins, a Lakeland, Fla.- based family-owned carrier founded in the mid-1930s, runs primarily in the Southeast and operates more than 200 tractors and 400 reefer trailers. • TransForce Inc. (CCJ Top 250, No. 7) changed its name to TFI International Inc. following the Canadian company's acquisition of XPO Logistics' truckload division to reflect "the company's growing operations and footprint in the U.S., where we currently gener- ate approximately 50 percent of our revenue," said Alain Bédard, chairman, president and CEO. • The Trucking Alliance for Driver Safety and Security, an industry advocacy and regulatory lobbying group that includes some of the nation's largest fleets, added three new members: U.S. Xpress (CCJ Top 250, No. 14), KLLM Transport Services (No. 33) and Cargo Transporters (No. 209). Previous members include J.B. Hunt (No. 6), Knight Transportation (No. 24), Maverick USA (No. 76) and Dupré Logistics (No. 128). • Trucking Moves America Forward now has more than 3,000 members in its database supporting the move- ment to educate legislators and the motoring public about the positive impact of the trucking industry, said Kevin Burch, co-chairman. TMAF raised $1.2 million in donations in 2016 and between $3 million and $5 million in in-kind services such as advertising space. The group also has sold more than 140 trailer wraps. INBRIEF 1/17
