USICERINKS.COM NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2017 / 17 Strangely, Renfroe says, every time they add another surface, the demand seems to increase. Elite women's hockey players from China train there. The Boston Junior Bruins skate there, among 14 high schools and many other organizations. The nearby Anna Maria College just announced they'd host the women's varsity program there, too. General Manager Wes Tuttle has seen the chaos firsthand. So many teams skate at the center that he worries he will forget to list them all for this piece. "You can have everything from a practice game going on at one rink, to a college game in another rink, to a junior game or a practice in another rink," says Tuttle. "That kind of thing." A Community Space A Marlborough local, Tuttle has seen the arena become an essential part of the community firsthand. He used to skate there as a player for years and has managed the space since the beginning. He's been in the business since 1978. His grandsons now play hockey at the arena. "It's a very rewarding experience for me," says Tuttle. "I don't feel like I ever go to work." Tuttle has seen generations of youth move on to careers in college, the American Hockey League and National Hockey League. Some local business leaders started their careers with scholarships to play Division I, II or III hockey. HOCKEY TEAMS CAN NOW PLAY AS MANY AS 120 GAMES THERE IN A SINGLE DAY. IT'S NOT UNCOMMON TO HAVE TOURNAMENTS WITH UP TO 160 TEAMS.
