ARUE RENFROE NEEDED ICE TIME.
His old home ice
evicted his league, so in November 1994, he built his own in
Marlborough, Massachusetts.
People were calling to reserve ice before its doors
even opened. The four-rink facility's docket was soon
packed with international hockey championships, figure
skating competitions and Renfroe's beloved Minuteman Youth Hockey
Association's events.
More than two decades later, the New England Sports Center has
grown to house 10 rinks. Its newest two sheets opened in late September.
Hockey teams can now play as many as 120 games there in a single day.
It's not uncommon to have tournaments with up to 160 teams.
