18 / JANUARY.FEBRUARY.2016 RINKMAGAZINE.COM NGB News USA Hockey & U.S. Figure Skating , USA Hockey's Adult Department offers a multitude of programming options throughout the year. Their Adult Classic Tournament series has become a staple for USA Hockey registered adult players around the country. Classic tournament locations span the coun- try and include Lake Placid, New York (the site of the 1980 Miracle on Ice); Dallas, Texas; Coral Springs, Florida; and Anchorage, Alaska. Because national championships don't have to end when your youth playing years do, USA hockey also offers Adult Recreational National Championships. Held annually in April in Tampa, Florida, the tournament is divided into age-specif- ic divisions ranging from 30+ to 70+ for both men's and women's teams. To complement the competition, USA Hockey tournaments include a USA Hockey souvenir for all participants, post-game refreshments and premium championship prizes. Winning teams also take home large championship banner designed for their home rink. In addition to their tournaments, USA Hockey's adult staff runs skills clinics and Try Hockey events throughout the country. The annual skills clinic, held in Plymouth, Michigan, at USA Hockey Arena, is designed for beginner and novice players to hone their skills in a fun and relaxed environment. Adult Try Hockey events are becoming an increasingly popular way to introduce adults to the game they love, and are commonly held in conjunction with our USA Hockey- sanctioned leagues and NHL partners. The marquee event of the year is the Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey Championships held each February in Eagle River, Wisconsin. This 4-on-4 outdoor tour- nament features more than 330 teams play- ing on 30 rinks on frozen Dollar Lake. All of the mentioned events are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Contact USA Hockey's Adult Department for more information on participating in or hosting an event. , U.S. Figure Skating and the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation have announced a promotional partnership in conjunction with the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer initiative. The goal of the partner- ship is to engage U.S. Figure Skating clubs and members, and the greater community. The Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation is dedicated to funding world class research and quality care to improve cancer survi- vorship. Now, it's time for our members and clubs to get involved. Sk8 to Elimin8 is teaming up with rinks across the nation for a unique peer-to-peer fundraising opportunity. Figure skating clubs and members are invited to fundraise for the Scott Hamilton CARES Foundation and, in turn, host a Sk8 to Elimin8 open skate celebration at their rink. To date, hundreds of participants around the country have asked friends, family and coworkers to pledge their support to raise money to fight cancer and support patients, their families and their caregivers. Participants are rewarded with prizes based on their level of fundraising. Interested in hosting an event? Visit support.scottcares.org.
