1. Do Something Crazy
Everybody has a bucket list with at least one
crazy thing on it, right? Whether it's jumping
out of a plane, doing a bungee jump or
holding a deadly python, you need to finish
your backpacking trip with a succession of
awesome stories to tell the jealous folk back
home
2. Challenge Yourself
It's important to challenge yourself every
now and then, and if you're not going to do it
while backpacking, when are you going to do
it? This could be something work related like
farm work in Texas or fruit picking in Australia,
to having a day out at the Pittsburgh Escape
Room.
3. Take a Road Trip
Whether you're in the Outback in Oz or in a
small town in Eastern Europe, a backpacker
needs to get themselves some wheels at
some point and experience the area the
proper way by driving around and getting
lost. Don't miss the nooks and crannies
that are off the beaten path and can't be
found in the guidebooks, and isn't that what
backpacking is all about?
4. Eat Something New
It's always good to try new things, even if
you can't pronounce the name and it doesn't
look or smell too good. Still, it's another way
to indulge in other cultures, and when you're
backpacking, that's what you need to do.
5. Do as the Locals Do
Wherever your travels take you, it pays to
invest time and effort into making friends
with the locals and engaging in the kind of
activities they like to do. Not only is this a
fun and rewarding experience for you, but it
is also a respectful way of indulging in other
cultures and people.
