TRACK OF THE MONTH: BLACK SUN EMPIRE & PROLIX - THE MESSAGE The compilation ran with a 24 hour mental health festival in London earlier this month and is packed with drum & bass sickness. Two juggernauts of the tech d&b camp have a serious message for you. When it comes to the hard shit, few are held with such high esteem as Black Sun Empire and Prolix. The pair of them have been at this for years, always building on their catalogue of tunes which has turned clubs and festival tents into chaos. They've joined forces and made a monster of a tune. 'The Message' is a forceful banger that'll leave its mark on the floors. A suitable eerie intro builds up to an initial fist full of bass. Energy levels remain on the max, sure to make this a firm favourite for DJs and ravers alike. The tune lands this July on the infamous Blackout. The Dutch label leads the way in the hard tech fuelled drum & bass and this tune is just their latest in their mad year that has seen tunes from Redpill, Rido & Neonlight. A long list of drum & bass' biggest and best have contributed some sick material for the brand new mental and physical wellness festival, Getahead. They've come up with this new compilation that's packed with killer tunes. The idea comes from Pendulum member, Ben Verse who ran the Getahead Festival earlier in June to raise awareness for the mental wellbeing for people working in the music industry. Launching a new album series Mind State Vol. 1 deliveres a full spectrum snapshot of drum & bass right now. All styles of the genre get maximum representation for an album donating all proceeds to Music Minds Matter. Spor & Lingusitics get murky in 'Pull The Sun Down', Killbox turn up the energy levels of The Prodigy's 'Invaders Must Die'. Artificial Intelligence calm it down with that slick roller and dBridge & Skeptical lay down a heavy junglist bass shaker with 'That's Nice'. We could go on explaining all the tracks as this is seriously all killer, though we suggest you just go cop yourself a now and hear it yourself! NEWS: MIND STATE VOL. 1 LAUNCHES GETAHEAD RECORDS ARTIST OF THE MONTH: CALIBRE: A LEGEND RETURNS Calibre is one of the most prolific producers of jazzy drum and bass. When you think of that liquid sound, his name is the first that comes to mind, completely synony- mous with that beautifully musical drum and bass we love. A producer wth a next level of insight into what makes a smooth groove, his catalogue of productions has an incomparable high level of quality. He has without doubt, been the master of some of the biggest drum and bass tunes of the last 20 years. His sound moves from drum & bass into dub, techno, house, jazz, soul and more with ease making him a top choice for re-mixes with a talent for bringing a new dynamic to any track, that often outshines the original. His latest LP, Shelflife, is a collection of unreleased tracks and dubplates with plenty of magic from the producer. "Addict" and "Jaboc" will be familiar to Calibre fans and Bluesday featuring the late, Marcus Intalex holds a special place in the collection since the legend's passing. We'll look forward to hearing many of these at what feels like his spiritual home, Sun and Bass this September. 40 ISSUE 110 / 2018 DRUM & BASS PLAYLIST The drum and bass on our playlist this month FHIT Circuits Lumberjack Serum The Life Stream Gravit-e Metal & Blood Teddy Killaz and Drum- sound & Bassline Smith
