28 FALL 2020 I T'S A STORY YOU'VE HEARD BEFORE BUT ONE THAT'S always relevant—as the family grows, so does the need for more space. Carrie and Matthew Powers were living in Charlestown when they had their first child… and then they had another. "We needed additional room than what we had in our condo in the Navy Yard," says Carrie Powers. "We wanted more space for our growing family." So, as that same story often goes, they started looking for a house in the suburbs. What they found was a traditional 1920s brick Colonial, which they loved, but the kitchen was small with no connection to the family room. In fact, you had to go around the whole first floor to get from one to the other. With such young kids, Carrie and Matthew wanted to renovate the spaces before they moved in, opening up the layout so they could cook in the kitchen while watching their nshoremag.com/nshorehome/ kitchens
