INDIE / ROCK 37 7 Issue 55 / 2013 Guestlist recommends: The family rain Bath based brotherly trio, The Family Rain's raucous rock 'n' roll will shake your bones to the core. Officially formed in 2011, The Family Rain (or more precisely: William, Ollie and Timothy Walter) have been playing music together for years. With that close-knit sibling understanding tied down perfectly, the trio are currently staking a genuine claim to be the best new British rock band around at the moment. With heavy backing from Universal Music Group subsidiary Mercury Records, the band's upcoming debut album has been recorded with Arctic Monkeys' producer Jim Abbiss and is destined to be huge. Illustrating the band's punchy immediacy, the video to their recent single 'Pushing It' follows a female boxing fight, taking the viewer through a couple of bruising rounds both visually and sonically. With venomous riffs, blues chord progressions, and gritty, wild vocals all being central to their growing repertoire of tunes, The Family Rain are incredibly likeable in so many ways. The band's latest single 'Reason To Die' is perhaps their most blunt and aggressive track so far, hurtling by with a mechanical clunk and roaring passion that will stir the rock star within us all. With dates supporting Miles Kane and Jake Bugg coming up and their own headline tour (that includes a headline slot at London's Heaven on November 25th) to look forward to, these boys are going places in the foreseeable future.
