MICHIGAN HOCKEY The 2008 CCHA Rookie of the Year, Max Pacioretty scored 15 goals and had 24 assists in one season with the Wolverines before signing with the Montreal Canadiens. He has played in 296 career NHL games over six seasons, with 94 goals and 96 assists. He was also representing the United States in the Sochi Olympics Feb. 13‑23. The Wolverine: What are your mem‑ ories of your one season in Ann Arbor? Pacioretty: "I just remember having so much fun. We had a good group of guys and the best coaches in the country. "It started with our captain, Kevin Por‑ ter, because we had a big freshman class and he made sure he included us in every gathering and made us feel like we were special and part of the team. It took off from there." The Wolverine: Playing left wing on Porter's line, what did it mean to you to see him win the 2008 Hobey Baker award? Pacioretty: "You have to start by say‑ ing he helped me that year a lot more than I helped him. He was huge for my career in really shaping me as the player I've become. "I was so excited for him even though we had just lost to Notre Dame in the Frozen Four. But he truly deserved that, and to this day, I've never played with such a great captain." The Wolverine: Do you wish you could go back and spend more time in a winged helmet? Pacioretty: "I wish I was still in school at Michigan. Pro hockey is more of a business. The family and brotherhood you have in college is second to none.
