They have retained the sound we already know and love but their songwriting has become more adult - tracks such as 'Matador' and 'Coming Over To My Place' showcase their development. Chilli Jesson has said that he feels more at ease with songwriting, "I didn't really believe in myself but now I feel a lot better about it, which is good. I feel a lot more confident." It definitely shows. Danger In The Club is an exuberant and somewhat defiant album with occasional pessimistic and bitter moments. After being labelled the "saviours of indie" and likened to The Libertines with their debut album 180, this record takes us back to the great years of British rock music. Palma Violets sound more like The Clash here and have summarised all their influences in this second release. We can see they worked hard on being a more professional band without losing the fun of recording and being on stage. We caught them at a private gig at Rough Trade East – tons of energy, people jumping all over the place and the material sounded epic live. By all accounts it was a storming set. Palma Violets seem to have found a way to rush into a storm that is blowing everything their way and it looks like they're not planning to stop now. ALbum of thE moNth PALmA VioLEtS - DANgER iN thE CLub The Violets release their sophomore album after signing to Rough Trade Records Native People – Reuben, Luke, Connor and Hudd – masterfully craft songs beyond their years, and have already been compared to the likes of Friendly Fires, Foals and Two Door Cinema Club. Anthemic lead track 'Tapes' has been praised by Clash for its "blazing synths" and "laser sharp guitars". The band cite their own influences on this record as Theme Park, The 1975, and Bombay Bicycle Club – you can definitely hear echoes of Bombay's 'Feel', which is certainly no bad thing. Native People are playing at The Great Escape, kicking off a summer that's bound to be big for these talented newcomers. tRACk of thE moNth NAtiVE PEoPLE - tAPES The indie-dance quartet present the lead single to their upcoming debut EP of the same name The record has been compiled from 200 hours of never-before- heard music, found in Cobain's storage facility, which Morgen was given unrestricted access to for his documentary. Morgen has said that it is not a Nirvana record, and that it will make you "feel like you're kind of hanging out with Kurt Cobain on a hot summer day in Olympia, Washington as he fiddles about. It's going to really surprise people." Along with the music, the tapes Morgen found also contain jam sessions with Courtney Love and with Nirvana, spoken word pieces, Beatles covers, demos and sound effects.
