Part of the Austin fi lm community for over 40 years, ACC-RTF prepares students for pathways into dynamic creative media fi elds through immersive coursework in screen storytelling, creative digital production and media studies. SXSW Community Screenings: Austin Film Society ShortCase Saturday, March 12 | 5:45 PM Stellite Venue: Mrches The Austin Film Society presents ShortCase, an annual short fi lm showcase by AFS members. Founded in 1985 by fi lmmak- er Richard Linklater, AFS empowers our community to make, watch, and love fi lm and creative media. AFS curates and screens 250+ important fi lms annually at its arthouse the- ater, AFS at the Marchesa; delivers fi nancial support to Texas fi lmmakers through the AFS Grant; operates Austin Studios, a 20-acre production facility; operates public access television under a contract with the City of Austin and supports the next generation through its award-winning afterschool programs, an intern program, and the Ed Lowry Student Film Program. SXSW Community Workshop: Austin School of Film Youth 3D Workshop Saturday, March 12 | 10:30 AM3:30 PM George Wshington Crver Museum Participants will use their imagination to create miniature worlds using handmade animation techniques such as stop-motion and paper cut-out animation with award-winning Animator, Jeanne Stern. ASoF will provide a pizza pary lunch, snacks and beverages throughout the duration of the workshop. SXSW Community Workshop: Austin School of Film Youth M.A.F.I.A. Sat., March 12Sun., March 13 | 10:00 AM10:00 AM Del Vlle High School Since 2005, Texas high school students, ages 14 to 19, come together to create short fi lms in only 24 hours during the Annual Youth M.A.F.I.A. Day Film Festival and Screening, held in conjunc- tion with SXSW Film's annual Texas High School Film Competition. You and your team will have 24 hours to write, shoot, and edit a short fi lm. You will receive a genre and a prop that has to be incorporated into your short fi lm. Your team will be required to have four students. Finished fi lms are screened for the public at an Offi cial SXSW Film Showcase during the festival. Films are judged according to their story, technical merit, and the fi lmmak- er's ability to incorporate and use the prescribed guidelines. SXSW Community Screenings: Austin School of Film's Youth M.A.F.I.A. Screening Tuesday, March 15 | 3:30 PM Vimeo Theter A showcase highlighting fi lms and animations completed in ASoF's SXSW Youth Outreach programs M.A.F.I.A (Make A Film In 24 Hours Competition) held at a local area High School for students ages 14 to 18. SXSW Community Screenings: Rainforest Partnership's Films for the Forest Sunday, March 13 | 3:00 PM Stellite Venue: Mrches Films for the Forest (F3) is an annual international short fi lm challenge created by Rainforest Partnership, with a goal to create awareness about the importance of tropical rainforests and threats faced by forests and their communities.
