Michigan featured a number of ath- letes worthy of Male Athlete of the Year consideration. Here's the best of the rest: 1. Kyle Connor, hockey — Connor, The Wolverine's Freshman of the Year, led the nation in scoring with 71 points (35 goals and 36 assists). He finished the season with a 27-game point streak, a Michigan record, notching 59 points (30 goals and 29 assists) in that span. He was named the Big Ten Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, and became the first freshman in college hockey to record 30 goals since Thomas Vanek (Minnesota) in 2002-03. 2. Dylan Bosch, swimming — Bosch capped his collegiate career with his 14th NCAA All-America honor, notching a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard but- terfly. He finished as a NCAA All-Amer- ican in two more of his races in 2016 — 100-yard butterfly and 800-yard freestyle relay — while adding a pair of NCAA All-America honorable mentions (200-yard individual medley and 400- yard medley relay). In addition, he was four-time Big Ten champion (200-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley and 800-yard freestyle relay), the Big Ten Swimmer of the Champion- Michigan's Other Top Male Athletes Kyle Connor became the first freshman in college hockey to record 30 goals since Thomas Vanek (Minnesota) in 2002-03.
