Better At The Line
= Better Bottom Line?

In the 33 basketball seasons since the Gene Keady Era began
in 1980-81, the Boilermakers have not shot worse from the free
throw line than this year (.633). But is good free-throw shooting a
predictor of a good Purdue team? The answer is a resounding
not necessarily.

The Boilermakers couldnt keep a handle on things in Sundays 72-52 home
loss to Iowa. Here, Courtney Moses sees
the ball come out of her grasp. It was
the worst conference home loss since a
58-38 loss to Minnesota in 2005.

This Week In Purdue History
Feb. 23, 1987 In one of the classic games in the series, No. 6 Purdue battled back to defeat No. 14
Illinois in Champaign 76-75 in overtime with Troy Lewis scoring 19 points. It was the second remarkable rally in four years as Coach Gene Keadys Boilermakers trailed by 16 points with 11:57 left. In 83,
Keadys Kids trailed by 20 against Coach Lou Hensons Illini with 10 minutes left only to rally.
Feb. 24, 2000 Brian Cardinal scored 20 points to lead the No. 21 Boilermakers to a 78-75 win at
Michigan. The Wolverines were extra charged up when freshman Jamal Crawford was declared academically ineligible hours before the game and fellow rookie standout Lavell Blanchard was hurt 28 seconds
into the game. Carson Cunningham, who scored 12 points, gave the visitors their first lead
with a three-pointer with 10:08 left and the Boilermakers held on from there.
Feb. 18, 2007 Katie Gearlds set Purdues all-time womens single-game scoring
record with 41 points in a win at Wisconsin. She bettered the standard set by Shereka
Wright, who had 40 points five years earlier. Amazingly, the rest of the Boilermakers only
scored 28 points vs. the Badgers, but it was enough for a 69-60 win for the 16th-ranked
team in the nation.
