6 GUESTLIST guestlist.net Issue 58 / 2013 LABEL OF THE MONTH: A WOLF AT YOUR DOOR RECORDS CLUB VS CLUB AIN'T NOTHIN BUT FLORIPA 20 Kingly Street, Soho – W1B 5PZ Hailed as the UK's number one independent rock record label, A Wolf At Your Door are a Shropshire based label who have worked with some of the best up and coming bands in the genre. With their own self-titled live show on the way, the label keeps going from strength to strength with each new release. Their roster includes the likes of Deaf Havana, Polar and many more bands who are touring all over the world. Their greatest achievement to date is the critically acclaimed Lower Than Atlantis who are now signed to Island Records. But it doesn't stop there: one of their current artists, Mallory Knox, are growing to be one of the hottest bands in the UK right now, having gained themselves a place on the Australian Warped Tour as well as a huge tour with Blitz Kids and Crooks at the end of the year. With new signing Wicked Snakes it looks like A Wolf At Your Door aren't planning on slowing down soon and will keep churning out hit after hit. More @ guestlist.net 91-93 Great Eastern St, London EC2A 3HZ Events The Carnaby Street blues bar has live blues playing every night of the week, up until 1 during the week and 2:30 on weekends. Just like everyone they have their New Year line up sorted, with Jerimiah Marques & His Blues Aces ready to swing you into 2014 and well beyond. Regular events include the Blues & Burlesque Extravaganza, taking place on the first Sunday of every month for only £5 entry. Events At about 9pm Tuesday - Saturday, the staff of Brazilian bar Floripa pack up the dining tables and recreate the space as a dance floor. From this point until 2am live Jazz, Soul and Samba sweep customers up into a jiving frenzy. If you're lucky one of their favourite DJs will join in, and all for only £5 entry before 10pm. We recommend the Wild Card Night as well as a New Years party where the bar becomes a big top circus! Drinks Pints are an average price for a London bar, or even below average, but the selection of spirits and whiskeys is not exhaustive. However, given the size of the venue this can be forgiven; the atmosphere is more one of having a relaxed drink than discovering fancy cocktails or flashing your cash. It's definitely a place for the easy going. Vibes It's always packed in this intimate bar, and with very little square footage to offer you'd better be prepared to get cosy with fellow punters. The scene is commendably reminiscent of a pre war blues bar far away from rainy London, with the bar staff dressed in flat caps and tweed waistcoats, the lighting dim and the décor dingy in that beautifully nostalgic way. Drinks Happy hour(s) occurs between 5 and 7, but otherwise the enormous cocktail list averages at around £8 each. This is fairly standard for London, and really can't be sniffed at, especially when the drinks themselves fail to disappoint in both taste and rarity. Most include Cachaca, the most prominent alcoholic drink component in Brazil, which heats up those Margheritas like nobody's business. Vibes The space is small but needs nothing more, with beautifully decorated walls and chandeliers made of brightly coloured exotic flowers. If you'd like to be relocated to the vibrancy and vigour of South America through food, drink, décor and music then this little Shoreditch bar is the place to go.
