229 Clockwise from top left, Andrew Spindler describes this collection of quirky clothing hangers as "folk art"; dating between 1870 and 1910, the hangers reflect the style of Alexander Calder, an American sculptor who is credited with the creation of the mobile. A signature nod to the North Shore's clam-harvesting history, this wrought-iron clam rake hails from Essex. This cream- and-sage chest of drawers, likely created in Boston, stands the test of time, retaining its original paint from 1840. Honoring the heritage of maritime Essex, this 19th-century piece features three clamshells painted with intricate nautical scenes. Created by Nantucket resident James A. Folger in 1877, this rare cobalt glass table screen was intended to give sunlight a blue hue; at the time, blue light was thought to have restorative properties.
