He loves to get at the level of those closest to the game and try to figure out how to best help them. "He'll bunker in with the coaches and understand what their needs are," Cunningham said. "He'll try to provide for them. He'll be very supportive in the recruiting process and work shoulder to shoulder to try to make them successful, and do what he can to make that happen. I think he's always done a good job of iden- tifying coaching talent that fits the institu- tion that he represents." Bobinski's greatest claim to fame has been his role in the hiring of three coach- es at Xavier: Thad Matta, Sean Miller and Chris Mack. Matta, who had coached pre- viously at Butler, was the only one that came from outside the Musketeer system. Miller and Mack were Xavier assistants before getting the job. Matta and Miller struggled in their first years as head coaches, before becoming highly successful. Yet Bobinski worked closely with them to develop their pro- gram. Miller, now at Arizona and consid- ered one of the nation's top coaches, cred- its Bobinski for his success. "He is one of the best in his field and in our industry," Miller said. "He has a really unique skill set and someone you learn to talk to and trust as a coach, which is rare. He can unite people, unite coaches, unite an athletic department. "He is genuine, a great listener, and there are no sides with him. It's not the athletic administration over there and the coaches over here. It all blends together. He just has a great way of uniting people. Purdue will enjoy having him."
